At the 22nd Japan Society for Cardiovascular Surgery Regenerative Therapy Research Conference, which is being held as part of the 54th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Cardiovascular Surgery on February 24, 2024 at Hamamatsu, Research Leader Masumoto, will deliver a special lecture titled "Cutting-edge iPS Cell Research by Cardiovascular Surgeons: From Basics to Applications." The host of this event is Professor Hiroshi Niinami from the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Tokyo Women's Medical University.

The RIKEN Gap Fund is designed to support the commercialization of research projects with the potential for business development and technology transfer. It assists in achieving the roadmap towards realization by addressing specific challenges (gap milestones) for promising research seeds. We announce that Research Leader Masumoto has been selected for the RIKEN Gap Fund in the research project titled "Development towards the societal implementation of a heart-on-chip microdevice for drug discovery and cardiotoxicity assessment". Working in collaboration with the Coordinator from RIKEN Innovation Co., Ltd., we will actively contribute to solving concrete challenges for innovation and continue efforts towards the practical application of the heart-on-chip microdevice.

Our laboratory is aiming at the social implementation of a device (heart-on-a-chip microdevice) that can detect human cardiac functions with high sensitivity by applying iPS cell technology and Organ-on-a-Chip technology through a collaboration with Stem Cell & Device Laboratory, Inc. (SCAD) (Kyoto, Japan) (CEO: Kensuke Kato). The research will be presented at the RIKEN booth at BioJapan 2022, one of the largest partnering events in Asia (12-14 Oct, Pacifico Yokohama).

The discussion will be held together with Professor Minoru Ono of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Tokyo.
