RIKEN BDR welcomes Genshiro A. Sunagawa as team leader of the new Laboratory for Hibernation Biology

RIKEN BDR established a new research team, the Laboratory for Hibernation Biology, in Kobe in October 2022. Dr. Genshiro A. Sunagawa has been appointed as the team leader. Before the appointment, Dr. Sunagawa served as a senior scientist at RIKEN BDR, developing methods for measuring sleep states in mice and conducting research on artificial hibernation. He has also led the QMIN project, one of the Center’s projects. In his new laboratory, Dr. Sunagawa, who is also an active pediatrician, is aiming to elucidate the basic principles of hibernation, with a view to human applications.
