Proteomics Core Facility

Kobe / Integrated Innovation Building (IIB)

Mass spectrometry-based proteomics is an indispensable technology for researchers working in the life sciences to carry out comprehensive analyses of the structure and function of the proteins in cells. The remarkable technical advancements in mass spectrometry over the past 20 years have made it possible to acquire highly comprehensive data from just trace amounts of samples, and tools for proteomic analyses has been contributing to the elucidation of the functions of numerous proteins as well as the molecular mechanisms of biological phenomena. At the same time, acquiring skills for proteomic analyses has become more challenging for researchers due to the rising costs of analytical instruments and growing complexity of analytical techniques.

The Proteomics Core at the Kobe Campus is equipped with a state-of-the-art liquid chromatography mass spectrometry system (nano LC-MS/MS), and research specialists are on hand to provide support for proteomics research.

The Proteomics Core also handles some contracted research for researchers at research institutions other than RIKEN.

Main Activities

  • Support for proteomics research using mass spectrometry
  • Consultations for experimental designs tailored for specific research objectives
  • Development of techniques for quantitative analysis using cell-free synthetic protein peptides
  • Adoption and introduction of the latest technologies for proteomic analysis technologies
  • Organizing seminars on the basics of proteomics and hands-on training
